GOP's Poster Wackos in Georgia and Florida Threaten College Football Season

The NCAA has announced there won’t be college football in the fall unless Coronavirus cases in the US are declining.

Meanwhile, one of the GOPs most visible wackos, Govern Brian Kemp, the Governor of Georgia, is suing the Mayor of Atlanta about masks. The Mayor wants them to be required in most public places in her hard-hit city. The Governor opposes a requirement, even if it means more cases, more deaths, more crippling lifetime disability and, of course, more powerful economic damage. All this because…he wants to get the economy going in time for the election.

Just a bit further to the south, in Florida, one finds another GOP poster wacko in the governor’s office. Like Kemp, Governor Ron DeSantis’ laissez-faire attitude toward the virus continues; he also pushed for his state to reopen far earlier than medical experts recommended. And now cases are skyrocketing.

GOP operatives in Florida quibble about statistics, endlessly shifting arguments and constantly averring they’re doing a great job. Certainly, they say, the state should be fully open in time for the election.

Agree with the GOP they’re doing a “great job?” Here’s one set of numbers to consider: 1) new cases in Germany on July 12 – just over 300. New cases in Florida on the same day, just over 15,000. The numbers are similar numbers in both places day in and day out. Population of Germany, just over 83 million. Population of Florida, just over 21 million. If you can understand the odds on a football game, you can do the math.

Both Governors Kemp and DeSantis are adamant about reopening schools – that is with children and teachers physically present – in about four weeks.

Will Coronavirus cases decline when vast numbers of people mingle in schools?

Will  the GOP elephant flap its ears and fly?

Put simply, Governors Kemp and DeSantis are on track to ensure there’s no college football this year. So, fans, when you’re lamenting the hole in your Saturdays, don’t forget who to blame.
